black box STUDIO SHOWS

Our Black Box studio shows are an opportunity for participants of our programs, our Ensemble, or creative collaborators to show work in progress, studies or short new works. They are hosted in the SCC studio in Alexandria and are intended to offer short and exciting pieces, and to give emerging choreographers and dance artists a chance to show their work to an invited audience.

program

March Dance Studio Show   Saturday 26 March 2022  7.00pm for 7.30pm start.

Three new choreographic works Ginger Hobbs, Audra Tory and Ashlee Wilson, choreographers in the SCC Master Program 2022

Chatter Box
Chatter box is a reflection of the universal disorder of sleep insomnia. As we go to bed every thought, emotion and experience is given the freedom and space to roam, in turn our brain is overwhelmed, and thinking can become obsessive. The more we try to let go the more erratic we become, and sleep feels less and less attainable. In desperation we use numerous techniques to wade our way into subconsciousness such as routine, entertainment and distraction. However usually in the end it is our thoughts that drown and exhaust us until our bodies reach their limit and it must give in to sleep.

Choreography    Ginger Hobbs

Abyss
A deep dive into the journey one experiences taking the plunge into the unknown. The piece takes form through the exploration of the divers perspective into the unnavigated depths of oceanic caves.
Choreography Audra Tory

Stained Glass
Demonstrative images in churches tell a story in stained glass: they are beautiful, but tainted, where perspective changes the perception of beauty.

Opposing forces are aligned and bound together - a nuanced image of reality, dystopian times juxtaposed with optimism. Pessimism and hope, chaos and structure, melancholy and joy, vulnerability and confidence, and, life and death are all intertwined within one another to create a duality of Joyous tension.
