MASTER PROGRAM
Applications are now open for Sydney Choreographic Centre’s 2022 Master Program. The program is designed to develop and mentor the next generation of choreographers from Australia and around the world. It is a course combining practical and theoretical study with dance professionals of international standing.
The Master Program is Sydney Choreographic Centre’s highest level program. It is held over 13-weeks in Sydney, open to emerging choreographers from the age of 18. Entry is limited to 20 per program.
Masterclasses will be given by acclaimed ballet and contemporary dance teachers, choreographers, principal dancers, set and costume designers, lighting designers, dramaturgs, playwrights, journalists, dance historians and composers - working artists who are leaders in their fields.
Participants will have opportunities during the year to explore their creativity through special workshops with Sydney Choreographic Centre artistic director Francesco Ventriglia and the dancers of his Sydney Choreographic Ensemble.
With its guiding principle of “learning by doing”, the Master Program will develop choreographic expertise, showing how to deal successfully with diverse choreographic languages and working methods, and will guide each person towards finding their individual artistic identity and choreographic voice. In addition, it will help prepare participants for a life in the performing arts by including study in associated practices and skills that will help the emerging choreographer build a career within a company structure or as an independent artist.
In addition to learning from the best, there is the opportunity to make invaluable professional connections. As well as being a place where seasoned professionals mentor up-and-coming talent, Sydney Choreographic Centre will be a beacon for artistic directors looking for young new creatives for their companies or for pieces for their festivals.
First Nations artists and artists from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
The program prospectus and further information will be available prior to applications closing.
Course cost $6,600 including GST.
The program begins 31 January 2022 and concludes 29 April 2022 and runs Monday to Friday 9am - 3.30pm daily. There may be some requirements for out of hours work and rehearsals.
NOTE: entry after the program start daye is possible on a case by case basis. Fees will be at a pro rata rate.
