FRANCESCO VENTRIGLIA
"I am thrilled to present my first work to the Australian public. I am grateful to create for the exceptional group of dancers of Sydney Choreographic Ensemble. I am delighted to collaborate again with the extraordinary triple Oscar winner James Acheson, creating a visionary world where Grimm's tales are not as you expect"

Heroes and heroines. Dark secrets and magical endings. Fairytale characters as you have never seen them before. GRIMM promises a world of imagination and beauty as Snow White, The Frog Prince, Little Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel and others find a path through the mysteries and dangers of youth to find joy, understanding and maturity. There will be a witch, of course, but expect the unexpected in this very modern version of old stories.
Sydney Choreographic Ensemble’s Francesco Ventriglia has made work around the globe (Bolshoi, Mariinsky, Grand Théâtre du Genève, La Scala, Florence Opera House, Royal New Zealand Ballet) and now brings his passion to this dazzling new contemporary dance piece, which will have its world premiere at Riverside Theatres Parramatta. GRIMM has costumes designed by three-time Oscar winner James Acheson (The Last Emperor, Dangerous Liaisons, Restoration) and features cutting-edge 3D video projection designed by Marco Giani. Be prepared for an unforgettable experience. |
what the critics say about grimm
The dancers ... are a dazzling collection. With dynamic skill, they perform choreography that channels every part of their bodies in small, singular moves to dozens of different and often surprising angles.
Jill Sykes, Sydney Morning Herald With its world premiere of GRIMM, the Sydney Choreographic Ensemble has certainly set the bar high. Artistic Director Francesco Ventriglia’s choreography was an excellent showcase for the individual talents of the cast.
Geraldine Higginson, Dance Australia The choreography is fast and ... furious, with movement that makes a bold contemporary statement, while based on classical technique ... the dancers dazzle as they perform sharp, intricate steps that exude an exhilarating urgency and passion, along with some lovely, lilting lifts.
