A NEW CONTEMPORARY BALLET by
FRANCESCO VENTRIGLIA
FRANCESCO VENTRIGLIA
“The euphoric connection between the physical and spiritual - the magic of body and mind in motion – results in a wondrous beauty that binds us together. For the discoveries of Galileo Galilei describe the spiritual, emotional and intellectual realms as much as they govern the physical domain.
“As artists, we use these forces to describe a palpable and visceral connection between all things. Perhaps we might simply call this Love.” Francesco Ventriglia
We run and stand still. We fall and rise again. We dance alone and with others. Our movement is gloriously human, with every moment personal and made anew. And yet we are at the same time forever subject to the strict laws of physics. It’s a mystery.
In his new work Galileo, Francesco Ventriglia takes the great 16th century scientist’s discoveries about motion and puts them to the ravishing music of Baroque giants Vivaldi, Scarlatti, Corelli and Monteverdi. Theory becomes flesh and blood as the raw material of speed, freefall, trajectory and inertia is transformed into emotion and startling beauty. Last year Ventriglia’s Sydney Choreographic Ensemble dazzled audiences and critics alike with the world premiere of GRIMM at Riverside Theatres Parramatta. Galileo promises an equally thrilling experience as the exquisite dancers of Sydney Choreographic Ensemble breathe life into an unforgettable meditation about how we walk upon this earth. |
what the critics say about gALILEO
"If Galileo drew a clear line between the classics and modern science, then Francesco Ventriglia can also be seen as expanding on the heritage of ballet to create a new choreographic vocabulary. His latest work, Galileo, is both a showcase for some of the most talented young dancers in the country and a thrilling scream for attention from one of the freshest choreographic voices to emerge in recent years."
Jansson J. Antmann, Limelight This work deserves the highest accolades for Artistic Director Francesco Ventriglia‘s choreographic brilliance, and the sheer strength, skill and commitment to detail every young dancer exudes.
Sarah Navin, Dance Life Australia What a thrill it was to see Francesco Ventriglia’s exciting choreography for his latest work, Galileo. The performance was absolutely absorbing to watch from beginning to end.
